{"id":7121,"date":"2016-05-20T19:54:17","date_gmt":"2016-05-20T17:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.imferblog.com\/?p=7121"},"modified":"2026-05-10T21:49:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-10T19:49:09","slug":"la-edicion-genetica-de-embriones-en-reino-unido-es-posible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imferblog.com\/?p=7121","title":{"rendered":"Manipulaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica de embriones: l\u00edmites y posibilidades en medicina reproductiva | IMFER Blog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cuando el Reino Unido autoriz\u00f3 en 2016 la edici\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica de embriones humanos con fines de investigaci\u00f3n, el debate internacional se intensific\u00f3. \u00bfD\u00f3nde est\u00e1 la l\u00ednea entre la investigaci\u00f3n leg\u00edtima y la modificaci\u00f3n de la especie humana? \u00bfPuede la ciencia avanzar en este campo sin abrir la puerta a usos que la mayor\u00eda de las sociedades considerar\u00eda inaceptables?<\/p>\n<h2>Lo que se autoriz\u00f3 y lo que no<\/h2>\n<p>La autorizaci\u00f3n concedida por la HFEA (Autoridad de Fertilizaci\u00f3n Humana y Embriolog\u00eda del Reino Unido) a la investigadora Kathy Niakan ten\u00eda condiciones muy precisas. Solo pod\u00eda trabajar con embriones descartados en cl\u00ednicas de reproducci\u00f3n, y \u00fanicamente durante los primeros siete d\u00edas tras la fecundaci\u00f3n. Los embriones manipulados no pod\u00edan, bajo ninguna circunstancia, ser transferidos a un \u00fatero.<\/p>\n<p>El objetivo era cient\u00edfico: entender qu\u00e9 genes son necesarios para que el embri\u00f3n humano se desarrolle correctamente en la primera semana. De cada 100 ovocitos fecundados, menos de 13 logran desarrollarse m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de los tres meses de gestaci\u00f3n, y comprender mejor ese per\u00edodo podr\u00eda tener implicaciones directas para mejorar las tasas de \u00e9xito de la FIV.<\/p>\n<h2>La t\u00e9cnica CRISPR-Cas9 y sus posibilidades<\/h2>\n<p>La herramienta utilizada es CRISPR-Cas9, un sistema de edici\u00f3n gen\u00f3mica que permite cortar y modificar el ADN en puntos espec\u00edficos con una precisi\u00f3n mucho mayor que cualquier t\u00e9cnica anterior. En investigaci\u00f3n b\u00e1sica, CRISPR ha revolucionado la biolog\u00eda molecular. En medicina, ya hay ensayos cl\u00ednicos en marcha para tratar enfermedades hereditarias en tejidos adultos.<\/p>\n<p>La edici\u00f3n de c\u00e9lulas germinales, es decir, modificaciones que se transmitir\u00edan a todos los descendientes del individuo, es otra cuesti\u00f3n. La mayor\u00eda de la comunidad cient\u00edfica internacional aboga por una moratoria en ese uso hasta que los mecanismos de seguridad, la eficacia y los marcos \u00e9ticos est\u00e9n suficientemente desarrollados.<\/p>\n<h2>Lo que existe hoy en cl\u00ednica: el DGP<\/h2>\n<p>La herramienta disponible actualmente en las cl\u00ednicas de reproducci\u00f3n asistida para evitar la transmisi\u00f3n de enfermedades gen\u00e9ticas es el diagn\u00f3stico gen\u00e9tico preimplantacional (DGP). A diferencia de CRISPR, el DGP no modifica el genoma del embri\u00f3n: simplemente analiza los embriones obtenidos en un ciclo de FIV y selecciona los que no son portadores de la enfermedad para la transferencia.<\/p>\n<p>En IMFER realizamos DGP para enfermedades monog\u00e9nicas y para estudio cromos\u00f3mico completo.
